Facilities

Central Tower

Featuring a panoramic view of the verdant hills of the Tama area, the Central Tower was completed in May 1999. The 18-floor, 80-meter-tall “intelligent building” contains offices, classrooms and research laboratories, along with the World Language Center, with its state-of-the-art learning facilities, and International Conference Hall, which is equipped with a simultaneous translation system. The Central Tower is symbolic of Soka University’s commitment to academic excellence in the 21st century.

Ikeda Auditorium

Completed in February 1991, the Ikeda Auditorium stands some 40 meters high (one basement floor and six stories about ground) and has a seating capacity of 4,000. The facility—one of the largest university auditoriums in Japan—is equipped with a large stage, orchestra pit, state-of-the-art 40-channel acoustic system, and simultaneous translation system that can handle a maximum of 12 languages. It is used for entrance and commencement ceremonies, concerts, lectures and other major campus events.

Student Hall

The four-story Student Hall provides various services and facilities for students and campus activities. The first floor contains a retail outlet at which books, stationery and sundry goods may be purchased, while the second floor features a lounge and multipurpose hall. The third floor has chat and self-study rooms, and a gallery hall, with additional self-study rooms found on the fourth floor.

Pond of Literature

The Pond of Literature is located near the Ikeda Auditorium. A natural preserve for local flora and fauna, including carp, wild ducks and lotus flowers, the pond is a campus favorite as a quiet retreat for all seasons, where students and others can meet to chat, paint or read.

World Language Center

Co-housed in the Central Tower and Building A, the World Language Center was dedicated for the express purpose of promoting global citizenship through the development of foreign language and multicultural competence. The center includes such facilities as study lounge, reading and writing rooms, computer room and seminar hall. Its Central Tower facility offers programs for students to learn English, Mandarin, Korean, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Russian, Mongolian and Nepalese, and provides opportunities to practice foreign languages with international students studying at Soka University. Study materials are available on loan without charge. The Building A facility contains multimedia classrooms, audiovisual library, an English conversation lounge and computer-assisted language learning laboratories.
