Since the 2007 academic year, the Faculty of Letters has been reorganized from five departments into a single new Department of Human Studies offering seven special courses. This new arrangement, modeled after U.S. liberal arts colleges, enables students to develop their own courses, offering them greater freedom to explore a wider range of disciplines and acquire a broader, more rounded education. The increased flexibility provided by the faculty means that students are able to acquire a deeper rooting in the humanities, the study of which is fundamental to all disciplines. In their freshman year, students can explore courses to define their interests. On the basis of this, from their sophomore year they select specialized courses.
