The Soka University Peace Research Institute aims to contribute to the construction of lasting and sustainable peace through research in the following four areas:
The Institute for the Comparative Study of Cultures engages in comparative studies of world cultures. As a vehicle for deepening mutual understanding and communication among people of different cultures and societies, such studies help foster harmonious relations among peoples of the world and mitigate against conflict. The institute promotes interdisciplinary exchange and integrates specialized study on different regions.
The Institute of Life Science implements research in the medical and biosciences. The institute promotes interdisciplinary research and undertakes research projects in collaboration with academic bodies—both domestic and foreign—and industrial and governmental bodies.
Buddhism has achieved a significant place in the history of humankind and has been a profound cultural influence in Japanese daily life. With the view of Buddhism as a cultural heritage that overcomes the barriers of race and creed, the International Research Institute for Advanced Buddhology was established in 1997 to contribute to humankind’s peace and prosperity in an environment of free and broadminded research.
The Soka Education Research Institute was founded in April 2006 to conduct academic research on the theory and practice of Soka education. Our initiatives include: (1) collecting and systematically organizing materials on the educational accomplishments of Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, the father of Soka Education, Josei Toda and Daisaku Ikeda, the founder of Soka University; (2) publication; (3) hosting research workshops and lectures; and (4) cooperation with other research institutes. The Daisaku Ikeda Research Center and John Dewy Research Center are set up within the Institute. The institute also cooperates with Daisaku Ikeda research centers established by overseas universities.
This institute was launched in October 2004 in Soka University’s Law School to develop and enhance education on ultimate facts. As well as research on ultimate facts education in Japan and abroad, the institute holds workshops and symposia in collaboration with other law schools, and plans to conduct overseas research trips. The results of our research will be made available as a contribution to legal education.
