A team of Soka University students won the ninth university-level Economics Record Examination (ERE) organized by Japan Economics Educational Association and held on July 6, 2008. The competition, which pitted 20 teams from 14 universities, gauges students’ expertise in micro- and macroeconomic concepts and applications.
Soka University, which entered and won the competition for the first time in 2007, fielded two teams this year. The first team, led by Hiromu Sasaki, edged out teams from the University of Tokyo, which placed second, and Waseda University, which finished third.
In addition to judging teams on a collective basis, the ERE also evaluated student performances individually. As a result, contestants from Soka University won first through sixth place.
The second Soka team, consisting primarily of sophomores, placed ninth.
