Five postgraduate engineering students of Soka University were awarded at the Multimedia, Distributed, Cooperative and Mobile Symposium (DICOMO2008), which was sponsored by the Information Processing Society of Japan and held in Sapporo City from July 9 to 11.
A special expert panel cited Soka Information Systems Science (ISS) major Hideaki Kawanishi’s research paper on digital forensics for its “superior” content, while Soka ISS post-doctorate student Koichi Kato earned an award for best presentation. Three other ISS students from Soka won the symposium’s best “young researcher” prize.
Mr. Kawanishi’s paper was among the 29 papers selected from a total of 284 submissions, while Mr. Kato, who proposed a security evaluation model for organizational networks, was one of 30 recognized out of 284 presentations.
The three best “young researcher” award winners, presented to postgraduates under the age of 30, were Yuichi Hanada, Takashi Ichimaida and Teruhiko Takagi.
