A team of Soka University students claimed first place in the tenth university-level Economics Record Examination (ERE) organized by the national association of economics education. Held on December 7, 2008, the competition pitted 163 undergraduates comprising 24 teams from 14 universities. It gauges students’ expertise in micro- and macroeconomic concepts and applications. The victory was the third consecutive win for Soka, which fielded four teams in the 2009 ERE, since it first took part in the competition in 2007. The nine-member team that won was again led by Hiromu Sasaki, a senior who captained Soka to victory in 2008. This year, Sasaki’s team scored 1,860 points—the most ever scored to date, edging out second-place Fukushima University’s by 310 points. Teams were not only judged on a collective basis, but individually as well. Of the four students scored a high score of 470 points, three were from Soka. |
