New monument, structures completed

2009.03.30

Soka University officially celebrated the completion of a new gate, central road and epitaph on Monday. The Soudai-mon Gate, located on the north side of the campus, is the third of its kind, while the Soka University Silk Road is a pathway flanked by ginkgo and cherry blossom trees. The epitaph to value creating pedagogy, Eternal Tribute to Soka Education, was erected along one side of the Soka University Silk Road. It also contains on digital disk the names of all the alumni and faculty members that have graduated from or taught at the Soka schools and universities around the world. In his commemorative address, Soka University President Hideo Yamamoto said the new gate symbolized “a portal of peace” through which Soka students may lead contributive lives for the sake of humanity, and that the Soka University Silk Road serves as a path of spiritual solidarity with the world. The opening ceremony also featured the school marching band and a musical performance.
