Soka judoists power their way to national contest

The Soka University women’s judo team advanced to the semi-finals, while their male counterparts placed in the top 16 teams in a Tokyo prefectural contest held on May 24, with both Soka teams earning berths in the national championship hosted by the All-Japan University Judo Federation to be held on June 27-28. Although the Soka men’s team prevailed over judoists from Keio University, they lost to Chuo University in the following round. The Soka team, however, secured a first-tier berth for the first time in two years. The Soka women’s team, meanwhile, earned victories over Meiji and Tokyo universities, but fell to powerhouse Waseda University in an overtime bout. |
