Former President Fidel V. Ramos of the Republic of the Philippines visited Soka University on Saturday to donate a set of works on behalf of his Ramos Peace and Development Foundation. His visit coincided with the 149th anniversary of the birth of Dr. José Rizal, a Filipino polymath and national independence hero of the Philippines. Mr. Ramos, who served as president for six years from 1992, was in Tokyo to attend a series of meetings for the International Association of University Presidents’ Executive Council and Board of Advisors. Among the books that were presented was Un-Solicited Advice, which was authored by the former president and published by his foundation with the aim of inspiring in young people respect for religious values, country, compatriots and nature. The former president was accompanied by a delegation from the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo led by Minister Gina A. Jamoralin and Vice Chancellor Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna of the American International University-Bangladesh. The visiting dignitaries were greeted by Soka University President Hideo Yamamoto, members of the faculty and administration, as well as representatives of the student body. Soka University founder Daisaku Ikeda, who was unable to attend the presentation ceremony, conveyed a personal message to the former president. |
