Party from University of Guanajuato Visits Soka University

On March 10 (Thursday), Director Sergio Silva Muñoz from the International Office at the University of Guanajuato and his party visited Soka University to inspect the campus as an academic exchange partner. At the Global Square, they were welcomed by and met with President Yoshihisa Baba, International Director Masaru Osanai, and Associate Professor Shinjiro Sato of the Department of Science and Engineering for Sustainable Innovation.

Director Muñoz commented that this visit to Soka University with his staff from the International Office was a great opportunity to see the campus environment and how exchange students from the University of Guanajuato are spending their student days. He was filled with appreciation and felt delighted to hear from one of the students, who looked very satisfied and reported how she is learning something new every day at Soka University. The director also said that since an academic partnership was signed 26 years ago on this day (March 10), 45 exchange students from Soka University have studied at the University of Guanajuato, while 36 from the University of Guanajuato have studied at Soka University, out of which he himself was one of them 17 years ago. He also shared that, in recent years, active research exchange is taking place with the Faculty of Science and Engineering and that graduate students are also being accepted at Soka University. Director Muñoz then said that the University of Guanajuato has continued to carry out academic exchange with many prominent universities around the world over the years, and he shared his plans to invite presidents from exchange partners from around the world this coming September to hold conferences and exhibitions. With this, he asked President Baba to also consider participating in this event.
When President Baba explained that currently a new dormitory for international students is being constructed with individual rooms for both men and women, Director Muñoz shared his memories of living at Takiyama Dormitory with 10 people in the same room, and laughingly commented that a room of 10 was a great experience but he envies current students. This was an amicable meeting from beginning to end.

Lastly, Director Muñoz said that he had brought stones from Valencia and Guanajuato, explaining that when he recently visited Ikeda Auditorium, he learned that stones have been commonly brought from universities around the world since after its construction, but unfortunately, he could not find any from the University of Guanajuato. The stones, which were neatly wrapped, were presented to President Baba.

The party then toured the campus, including SPACe in Global Square and the Central Tower.
