Sports Challenge Festival Held for First Year Students

On April 28 (Sunday), at Soka University’s Victory Ground, the 25th Sports Challenge Festival took place where approximately 500 new undergraduate students gathered.

The festival is held every year with the goal of allowing newly joined students to deepen their friendships with fellow students through sports. The steering committee, consisting of second- and third-year undergraduate students, plans and runs the event.
This year’s festival included competition among six teams, comprised of the: Faculty of International Liberal Arts and Faculty of Law; Faculty of Business Administration; Faculty of Economics; Faculty of Letters; Faculty of Education; and Faculty of Science and Engineering and Faculty of Nursing. The seniors created a bright and cheerful atmosphere, and the new students were excited. As a result of three games, the team from the Faculty of Science and Engineering and Faculty of Nursing won the championship.

In his greetings, Mr. Tomokazu Minami (junior student, Faculty of Education), who served as the committee chief, shared: “The significance of holding this sports festival, after less than a month since you all joined the university, is to deepen exchange and make friends with those that are also new to the school. This event is also a competition among faculties, so it is also a place where each faculty can unite to become champions. My hope is that all of you as participants are able to deepen exchanges with fellow students while also experiencing the greatness of uniting and advancing together toward a common goal.”

Comments from participating new students were as follows:
    - “Participating in the games, I was able to make many new friends. I am so glad that I participated in the Sports Challenge!” (from a student from the Faculty of Science and Engineering)
    - “As we supported each other and participated in the competitions, I was able to make new friends. Thank you very much for an enjoyable time!” (from a student from the Faculty of Letters)
