At the graduation ceremony, the Board of Trustees Chairperson Yasunori Tashiro introduced a message from the founder Daisaku Ikeda. In his message, the founder said, "You are all irreplaceable Soka Alumni. I look forward to the day you’ll be able to return and chat to your heart’s content with your fellow friends here on campus of your alma mater. . Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, the founder of Soka Education, who embraced the belief of peace and humanity, expressed the purpose of life as the following. It is to “create supreme value and to attain the greatest happiness”. You may encounter hardships, however please enkindle the spirit of never being defeated, open the path to a peaceful and humanitarian society, and attain a life filled with great happiness.

Afterwards, completion certificates were awarded, and two international students; Hsu Pyae Zaw Win, an exchange student from Yangon University of Foreign Languages in Myanmar, and Hiromi Victoria Oehlerking, a non-degree student from the United States of America, gave speeches on behalf of the international students.
Ms. Hsu Pyae Zaw Win said, " I had many concerns since it was my first time taking online classes. However, professors taught us in an understandable way and I gradually became closer to my classmates and made many friends through group work. Studying at Soka University for the past year, I have been able to further improve my Japanese language skills and I will use those skills to pass the JLPT N1 with a high score. One of my goals after graduation is to work as a bridge between Myanmar and Japan. 」と語りました。
Hiromi Victoria Oehlerking said, "I was able to acquire and experience humanistic education through these relationships and build friendships with many international students from across the world, all of whom are very sincere and kindhearted individuals. Although I was not able to meet them in person, I was able to message and call them throughout the semester. I learned from them that regardless of time and distance, we can create bonds of friendship even from overseas. I will continue to cherish these friendships. As a non-degree student of Soka University, the experience of taking classes has greatly touched my heart. In the future, I am planning on applying to Soka University as either a transfer student or to study in a master’s program. " she said, reflecting on her life after studying abroad at Soka University while speaking in Japanese.

Finally, President Yoshihisa Baba announced, "Soka University will celebrate its 50th anniversary on April 2nd. Universities around the world are searching the ideal way to conduct higher education and research during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. With the cooperation of professors, staff, and students, we will respond to this challenge as we make a new start towards the 100th anniversary. For the next Grand Design project, we adopted the theme of “a university that fosters ‘global citizens’ that can create value”. It’s our wish is that each one of you will strive to reach your potential as a global citizen and contribute to the well-being of others,” throughout your life. I sincerely hope that all of you will use your experience at Soka University and apply the philosophy of value-creation to your life.
