The 2021 Spring Semester Conferral Ceremony for the Honor Student Certificate took place on June 4 (Friday), online and at Room S201. It was participated by 96 students (including 10 international students) who were selected as honor students, Board of Trustees Chair Yasunori Tashiro, President Yoshihisa Baba, Director of the Student Affairs Office Masayuki Okutomi, and the deans of faculties. Soka University’s honor student system aims to encourage students for their outstanding academic results they have produced since they entered the university. Scholarships are awarded to high achievers of GPA (Grade Point Average) selected from the students who obtained 16 or more units in each semester.

At the beginning of the ceremony, President Baba conferred the honor student certificate to a student representative. The president then sent cheers to the students: "All of you made great efforts despite some trouble you may have had, and then produced a wonderful result of becoming an honor student. Throughout your student life, I would like you to continue asking yourselves what it takes to become a global citizen and cultivating the ability to create value in society."

This was followed by a greeting from Board of Trustees Chair Tashiro, who encouraged the students by his words, "Studying during the Covid-19 pandemic may have been difficult, but the heavy work during your youth will be your lifetime asset. Keep studying hard so that you will acquire the ability to contribute to society in the field of your choice."

- I have devised ways to use my study time at home and set goals for each class. I will never forget my gratitude to those who have supported me, and I will continue working hard and build my ability to play an active role in the world. (Sophomore, Faculty of Economics)
- It was sometimes difficult learning through online classes due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but my efforts have paid off, and I was selected as an honor student. My parents are also delighted. In the future, I will continue to study hard through friendly rivalry with other students. (Junior, Faculty of Science and Engineering)
