Kasumi Elementary School 6th graders and Soka University Students Engaged in International Exchange

On December 16 (Mon), 41 elementary school children from the 6th grade of Kasumi Elementary School visited our university guided by 3 teachers. They engaged in English language activity lessons and international exchange provided by Soka University students at the SPACe World Language Center.

The international exchange was implemented with Soka University students from Australia, Cameroon, Taiwan, Brazil, Malaysia, and Japan experiencing study abroad through card and other games, where they actively engaged in communication in the English language.

This is an annual event held as a lesson of the Faculty of Education (Special English Lecture under the supervision of Associate Professor Daniel Sasaki), and the students of this subject provide support for English language activities at the Kasumi Elementary School once per month.

Here are some comments of our students who engaged in this activity.
“This was a wonderful opportunity to put into practice what I have learned until now. It was very good because through teaching it is also possible to learn many things during the interesting exchange. (Faculty of International Liberal Arts, 4th-year student from Australia)”
“I was very much inspired by looking at the foreign language learning posture of Kasumi Elementary School pupils. I felt the importance of education and was able to contribute to the children’s cultivation. They are the leaders of our future. The children create valuable memories before entering middle school, and I believe they will embark on a future filled with hope. This was a precious experience and I am very much grateful for it. (Faculty of International Liberal Arts, 4th-year student from Malaysia)”
“It was very much fun being able to participate as a volunteer. The children were very energetic and participated in the games with a lot of vigor. I had some problems speaking English in a way that the children would understand, still, this was a very good experience for me. I was able to experience the full joy of teaching English to children. (Faculty of Letters, 3rd-year student)”
