2022 Soka University International Scholarship Award Ceremony was held

    The Soka University International Scholarship Award Ceremony for Exchange Students going to overseas exchange universities was held on Friday, July 1st at Global Square.

    This year, 73 students will study in 28 countries and regions, including the United States of America, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Thailand, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Italy, Norway, and Kenya, as part of the exchange and accredited study abroad programs.

    At the award ceremony, Ms. Kaori Tomisaka (4th-year student in the Faculty of Letters), who will study at Ankara University in Turkey, said: "Last year I had decided to study in Mexico, but it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thinking back on my determination at the time of entering the university to grow into a person who can connect with people through culture, I chose Turkey, which is the intersection of the West and the East, as my study destination. There were times when I was struggling with my career path while considering studying abroad again, but looking back on it now, I realized that it was a necessary process to think carefully about the future."
    Hisashi Sakaki, a third-year faculty of law student who will study at the University of Hong Kong said: "I would like to put into practice each and every experience I have gained in my student life and use it for my personal growth. Specifically, I would like to deepen my academic activities in GCP (*1) and GLC (*2) by studying with students from different cultures and languages." 

    After presenting the scholarships to the students, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Yasunori Tashiro, said, "Getting to know people is the first step to understanding diversity.{j}Along with studies in the fields, I encourage you to develop friendships with many people."

    In his closing remarks, President Masashi Suzuki said, "I would like you to think about the meaning of going to that country, create new values through studying abroad, and link this to your personal growth."

    *1 GCP: Global Citizenship Program. 
    This program develops the potential of students who aim to play an active role in the international community and in global fields in the future. It consists of approximately 30 students who are selected from six faculties after admission
    *2 GLC: Global Leader College.
    An extra-curricular course organized by the Career Centre to develop human resources who will lead society based on the two keywords "Global" and "Leader"
