Greetings from the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees

I would like to extend my sincere New Year's greetings.
We would like to convey our deepest gratitutde for your continued support for the development of Soka University and Soka Women's College.

On January 2nd and 3rd, the Soka University Track and Field Ekiden team participated in the 99th Tokyo-Hakone Round-Trip College Ekiden Race (Hakone Ekiden), one of the biggest collegiate relay marathon races. Ten athletes ran a total of 217.1 kilometers as one, and resulting in 8th place overall, they were seeded for the fourth consecutive year, making new history. I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the athletes, the support staff, and all the people who cheered for Soka’s student-athletes in front of their TVs. The athletes are making the most of this experience and have set off to their next goal. We greatly appreciate your continued support for the Track and Field Ekiden team. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude for the generous support we received from many people for participating in this year’s Hakone Ekiden. Thank you very much.

Based on the founding principles established by the Founder Daisaku Ikeda and upholding the spirit of prioritizing students, Soka University has been taking initiatives designed to foster creative global citizens. In response to generational changes, faculties and departments have been established and reorganized. From the three faculties at the time of its opening, Soka University has developed into a comprehensive university with 8 faculties, 6 graduate schools, 2 professional graduate schools, 4 correspondence education departments, and a women's college, with more than 100,000 graduates from the university (including correspondence education departments) and the women’s college.

In FY2022, the first "Symposium on Global Citizenship Education" was held on campus as an event to mark the latter part of the 50th anniversary of the university’s founding, which was celebrated in 2021. Under the theme of "Restoring Learning to Daily Living: Global Citizenship and John Dewey", approximately 170 researchers from 25 countries and regions around the world participated in the event; forming a new network. The event marked a major step toward building a core of excellence for global citizenship education.

Since last year, most classes and extracurricular activities has been held in-person, and even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, students are learning together in a lively and bustling campus environment.

Soka University will continue to strive to become an ideal campus under the banner of the reforms outlined in the "Soka University Grand Design 2021-2030" and the “Soka Women's College Mid-term Plan 2021-2025".

Lastly, I offer my sincere wishes for your good health and success in the new year.
