Basic English Learning

The more you study, the more you improve

When you start studying English, you should understand that it is essential for you to study for a certain amount of time. For example, in order to improve your TOEIC test score from 400 to 600, about 1,100 hours of study is required. If a student would like to achieve it in a year, he or she needs to study about three hours every day (1,100 hours / 365 days).

Expose yourself to English every day

You should also take in English in your everyday life. Do you remember how to master Japanese when you were very young? You must have repeated listening, speaking, reading and writing in Japanese again and again. For the mastery of English, too, you would need to do the same thing.

You may try the following ways to practice every day:
  1. Always listen to English. Hear what you can understand. Get used to the sound and rhythm.
  2. Repeat what you heard. By mimicking the sound you’ve heard, you may train your mouth muscles and then be able to pronounce more clearly.
  3. Read aloud. You cannot listen to what you cannot read.
  4. Think in English. Try to explain what you did in a day in English. Expand your expressions and build up the vocabulary by learning how to express yourself in English.

Endurance makes you stronger

You should keep working regularly, even little by little. Just like an athlete working out every day, you should develop your “English muscles.”
