Self-study on the Internet

Studying English online has some advantages. That is, learners can work at their own pace, measure their reading speed automatically, and arrange the playback speed. Soka University offers students an e-learning program called ALC Net Academy 2, which contains Beginning/Intermediate Course Plus (TOEIC preparation), Standard Course (TOEIC preparation with diagnostic tests), Power Words Course Plus (vocabulary building), TOEIC Practice 2000 course, and Technical English Power Up Course. As mentioned, it is programmed for TOEIC preparation, but it helps learners build up English proficiency comprehensively. All Soka University students are able to access the program, from both inside and outside school. Click on the logo and login the ALC Net Academy.

Tips and Goal Settings

E-learning requires learners to be steady and motivated. However, as it is a kind of self-study that tends to be a simple repetition of clicking the answers mechanically, it is sometimes difficult to maintain motivation. In order to avoid such a situation, it is learners who need to make some adjustments. For instance, they should repeatedly try the same exercise or frequently take notes. Also, they should set the goal (“How many exercises should be done by when?”) for more efficient use of the program.
