【FILA】Professor Sugimoto was invited to participate in the 4th University in Action Symposium held at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) as a jury
On January 10th (Wednesday), Professor Sugimoto was invited to participate as a jury in the 4th University in Action Symposium held at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in Bangi, Malaysia.
On that day, 3,389 students presented the results of 129 regionally collaborative projects conducted over two semesters in a research outcomes presentation divided into various sections. Juries with diverse backgrounds, including university faculty, NGOs, businesses, and government agencies, provided constructive suggestions to guide the projects in a positive direction. In the first semester, students narrowed down the issues, created project plans, and conducted pilot studies. In the second semester, they reported on the results of the implemented projects. Each group created posters and conducted explanatory sessions on the floor.
Professor Sugimoto expressed his impressions, saying, "I was amazed to see that all students, especially first and second-year students, collaborate with the local community, conduct interviews on-site, identify issues, and take actions with the local people to solve the problems. The themes cover a variety of topics such as poverty, education, and the environment, always linking back to the SDGs goals and requiring collaboration with companies. All presentations were conducted in English, and I was deeply moved by the groups challenging themselves through trial and error. I learned about the serious and innovative initiatives taking place in Malaysia, and it was a strong source of inspiration for me."
