Best Paper Award at an international conference for a paper by a Soka University graduate student (completed this spring)

Luiz Henrique Barbosa Mormille (currently an Assistant Professor), who completed his doctoral course in the Department of Information Systems Engineering (Atsumi Laboratory), Graduate School of Engineering, of Soka University in March, presented a paper at the international conference "AROB (29th International Symposium on Artificial Life and Robotics)-ISBC (9th International Symposium on BioComplexity)-SWARM (7th International Symposium on Swarm Behavior and Bio-Inspired Robotics) 2023" and was presented with the Paper Award.

This international conference was held in January of this year with 443 participants from 11 countries. His paper referred to the self-attention regularization method that imposes an inductive bias on the self-attention calculation of the Vision Transformer (ViT), one of the fundamental models in image recognition, and the model ArViT that incorporates this method.

Mr. Mormille said, "I believe that AI will play a major role in society. To embody the founding spirit of Soka University, I have been working on my research with the determination to contribute to society through AI. I am delighted that my paper, which I wrote while a student at Soka University, has been selected for the Best Paper Award."
