Dong-Eui University
Dr. SooWhan Han
President

Greetings to all officials and executives of Soka university. As the president of Dong-Eui university, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to be invited in the congratulatory remarks of Soka University’s 50th anniversary.

Since its opening in april 1971, Soka University has continued to stay true to its name and its mission statement of nurturing global citizen with wisdom and seeking continuous development along with the world’s leading educational institutions. With its foundation based on peace and happiness of humanity, I genuinely applaud and understand that Soka University is continuing its efforts to foster “creative individuals”.

Based on these efforts alone, I strongly believe that Soka University will become an irreplaceable institution that is required by the nation and the world.

As a fellow companion in nurturing individuals of wisdom, Dong-Eui University has continued to develop since its opening in 1977, and now has grown into a four-year university with 153 master’s and doctorate programs in 8 colleges, 25 departments, 19 undergraduate programs(47 majors), and 7 graduate schools. More than 16,000 current students and 1,600 faculty members are devoted to academic research and community service.

Furthermore, with the ongoing rapid changes in the university environment, we must not waver and stay true to our purpose of nurturing creativity and leadership. By “Cultivating collaborate talents that forms a forest”, we must become the foundation and support that can produce these unyielding group of pioneers in these turbulent times. Based on these educational goals, we are striving to fulfill our objectives and responsibilities with a global sense of world-consciousness.

With the alignment of objectives, Dong-Eui University and Soka University signed an MOU on international exchange in May 2019 which laid the foundation for building a close cooperative relationship as a bridge between Korean and Japanese culture, academic research, and human exchange. I am very confident that this mutual collaboration between two universities created an immense synergistic effect. It promoted a creative and innovative environment where our students can experience the cultural diversity between individuals and broaden one’s horizons. Rather than being limited to one’s own language and culture, this experience will become the cornerstone to our future leaders that will shape the global community.

As we enter the 21st century, we believed that the world would advance toward an order of peace and coexistence. However, ongoing confrontation and conflict still continues all around the world. It is a sad reality that an order by power that puts only the interests of the nation has deteriorated our humanitarian values. In this situation, the expectations for universities that nurtures the future generations are very high. It is our responsibility to transcend national interest and become a base for developing universal values with high ethical standards. To fulfill this mission, I believe that all universities must promote frequent and meaningful international exchanges and cooperation’s across national barriers.

Therefore, Dong-Eui University is committed to fulfilling its mission and responsibilities along with further exchanges and cooperative activities with Soka university. While using our core competencies to share and innovate new ideas, we hope to move forward in resolving the confrontations and conflicts around the globe.

Lastly, I wish an endless development and prosperity to Soka University. I hope our ties between the two university will remain strong and may our pursuit of a better education be unending. Thank you.
