Greetings from Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Virginia. On behalf of the administration, faculty, staff, students, and alumni of Mary Baldwin, I write to extend our hearty congratulations as you mark the 50th anniversary of Soka University. It is truly an important milestone worthy of honor and celebration.

Since the establishment of our exchange program under the leadership of Dr. Daniel Metraux almost 10 years ago, it has been our pleasure to welcome Soka students to our campus each year. These students have represented your institution impeccably, excelling in their studies and demonstrating intellectual curiosity and a joy of learning, and always with an impressive command of the English language. They are a delight to have on campus and contribute greatly to our community.

As a premiere university with outstanding facilities and scholarship, Mary Baldwin students who study at Soka consistently report having life-changing experiences as a result of their time on your campus.

Thank you for entrusting your students to the Mary Baldwin community so that we may be part of their academic journey, and likewise, thank you for enlightening the MBU students who study with you. The benefits of cross-cul皿 al understanding that result from this treasured partnership cannot be overstated. Higher education provides the ideal platform for young adults to understand the people, traditions, and cultures of lands that they might not otherwise know, ultimately helping them view the world with greater compassion and appreciation for differences.

It was just a few years ago that Mary Baldwin celebrated its 175th anniversary. On that occasion, I shared these words with our community, and they seem fitting now to share on your 50th anniversary:

We have celebrated the past, and now we draw upon our sense of purpose and intentionality toprepare ourfuture students to be agents of their own destiny. This is the time for seeing possibility within us, within our students, all around us.

Your friends at Mary Baldwin University wish you well as Soka University moves into its next 50 years of preparing students to be agents of their own destiny and fostering global citizens who can contribute to the greater benefit of humanity.
