The Soka University is the sprouting brightness of Values, beyond the chasm of negations, to strike a note of concord in the intellectual life of humanity. She is the bright resplendence of valorization, an alma mater of life-celebrating light, the dream child of the sagacious Daisensei lkeda-san to arouse our consciousness to the beauty of existence, in the joyous harmony of world peace, beyond the desecration of nature in the wild fury of eco-grazing. In the short span of half a century the Soka University has become the forefront of imparting value-based education to the young generation, so that they are exposed to the smiles of Life. The Soka University is the Shining East, where the rising sun brings out the radiance of the mind, so that our spirits are bathed by the Spirit of the Universe across the glorious Ekayana (Ichijo) of the Lotus Sutra.

Arising from the deeps of the Lotus Sutra, the University is a symbol of the luminosity of the mind represented by the blue lotus (utpala), the energy of action of the red lotus (padma), the silent serenity of the night lotus (kumuda), and the purity and sanctity of the white lotus (pundarika). They constitute the renge-chi (lotus perception) of the sacred Sutra. The Soka University is a reincarnation of Nalanda that was aglow with lotuses (Nāla) with its translucent principles and serenity of Soka. To borrow a phrase of Xuan Zang, the Soka University is the "sweet dew of Dharma" to enwoven life with light and to kindle times to come. Heartiest felicitations to the academic family of the University on its glorious fiftieth anniversary in the onward march to the Temple of Time to be born. Mr. President Dr. Yoshihisa Baba, you are blessed to head this seat of learning where generations will come to enlighten their minds in the tread to the highways of ever-renewing knowledge.
