I would like to extend my sincerest congratulation as you mark the 50th anniversary of Soka University. On behalf of Hiroshima University, I would like to express my congratulation.
Soka University was founded in 1971 to embody the idea of respect for the sanctity of life and educational philosophy of fostering creative human beings. Since then, your university has made its endeavor to be the highest seat of learning for humanistic education and achieved today’s prosperity. I am convinced that this success is entirely due to the result of endeavors of President Baba and all of your faculty and staff. In recent years, your university received a high evaluation on THE University Impact Rankings 2019, which evaluate the initiatives for SDGs. Also, your university won the first half and got the second overall victory in 2021 Tokyo-Hakone Round Trip College Ekiden Race. Your achievement gave people inspiration.
Your founding principle, “Be a fortress for the peace of humankind” have something in common with the principle of our university, “Peace University” founded in Hiroshima, bombsite. I wish our university’s continued collaboration for the sustainable and peaceful future.
The unprecedented crisis of COVID 19 pandemic requires Japanese higher education to transform boldly. Unflinching from the challenges, let us construct a new path together.
