International Conferences

Leveraging the skills in English communication, discovering issues, and solving problems that they have developed in GCP, our students have participated in various international conferences as Japanese student delegates, including the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates.

Participation in the Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR)

In August 2018, GCP students Mika Matsuyama (3rd Year, Faculty of Law) and Manabu Koide (3rd Year, Faculty of Science and Engineering) participated in the Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) held in Malaysia. This conference, organized by Harvard University, takes place twice every year. Students from around the world are divided into groups to discuss various topics, including politics, economics, and social issues, and present their proposed solutions to those issues. Mika’s group presented a business model to solve health problems, and received the highest marks. Tomomi Kawakami (4th Year, Faculty of Economics) also attended HPAIR at Harvard University in the United States in February 2019.

Participation in World Bank Youth Summit 2018

Akira Kawai (4th year, Faculty of Law) and Hidemi Mineoka (4th year, Faculty of Business Administration) attended the World Bank Youth Summit 2018 in Washington D.C., United States, in December 2018. This Summit, hosted by the World Bank Group, is held annually. This year, the theme of the Summit was “Unleashing the Power of Human Capital.” Young people from around the world considered issues from various angles, holding discussions and participating in workshops. Hidemi commented, “I plucked up the courage to speak up and assert my own opinions, and the experience of having other people agree with me gave me a lot of confidence. The challenges of the two years in GCP have greatly broadened my own potential.’

Participation in STeLA Leadership Forum 2018, a gathering of the world’s top science and technology students

Sakura Kiyama (3rd Year, Faculty of Science and Engineering) attended the Science and Technology Leadership Association (STeLA) Leadership Forum 2018 at the University of Tokyo in August 2018. The STeLA Forum brings together science and technology students from some of the world’s top universities and gives them the opportunity to learn about the theory and practice of leadership, scientific knowledge, and technology, and to plan and propose projects. Participating students not only hold discussions about future technologies, but also share their differences in thinking and values, allowing them to broaden their horizons. Sakura’s group presented a proposal for an environmentally friendly house design, which was awarded first place among all of the groups.
