Event to Commemorate the 162nd Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore
An event to commemorate the 162nd Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore was held on Saturday, May 13, 2023.
This student-organized event, supported by Soka University South Asia Research Center (SARC) and Global Core Center,
welcomed Ms. Kanika Aggarwal, the Director of the Vivekananda Cultural Center as a special guest.
Floral tributes were paid to the statue of Rabindranath Tagore (located at Soka University) by Ms. Aggarwal and
Prof. Ryohei Tanaka, the Director of SARC and Executive Vice-President of Soka University. This statue was presented to
Soka University by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in 2009 and is one of the very few statues of Tagore in Japan.
This was followed by the main event in Space Arena at Global Square, which included presentations and speeches to introduce
Tagore and cultural performances of songs written and composed by him.
