Faculty of Science and Engineering
Soka University
The Faculty of Science and Engineering,
We are working to develop human resources who will contribute to achieving the SDGs!
Project studies allow students to work in groups while communicating with each other in development research. Overseas training, such as technical cooperation with developing countries, allows students to acquire an international perspective and play an active role globally. And a variety of laboratories handle everything from molecules to big data. All of these satisfy intellectual curiosity and create a foundation for contributing to the advancement of science and technology. At the Faculty of Science and Engineering, we are committed to cultivating human resources who can absorb solid knowledge over four years, support industry, and contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.
Message from the Dean
A better future for the Earth, humanity, and all living things
Hello to everyone who will lead the future of Japan and the world. I have loved living things since I was a child, so I joined a laboratory in college to study yeast lipids. After that, I became a researcher and am currently researching microorganisms in extreme environments. Soka University's Faculty of Science and Engineering is composed of two departments, the Department of Information Systems Engineering and the Department of Symbiosis Creative Science and Engineering, with the three pillars of information, life, and the environment. In the Department of Information Systems Engineering, students learn cutting-edge fields such as mathematics, information, big data, security, AI (artificial intelligence), and robots, while in the Department of Symbiosis Creative Science and Engineering, students learn interdisciplinary fields such as new materials, life sciences, biotechnology, and environmental science and engineering. All of these are essential fields for creating a high-quality life and a sustainable society. The world is currently undergoing major changes, but there is a shortage of people who can contribute to society through science. We look forward to gathering people at Soka University's Faculty of Science and Engineering who will acquire diverse expertise and think about and act together to create a better future for the earth, humanity, and all living things.
Two departments that contribute to society through science
Two departments in the Faculty of Science and Engineering where students can study a wide range of fields across the board, including mathematical science, IT, AI, the environment, new materials, and biotechnology.
The following new departments are scheduled to open in April 2026!
Characteristics of the Faculty of Science and Technology
The College of Science and Engineering focuses on cutting-edge science and technology, providing students with opportunities to develop problem-solving skills and innovative thinking through an interdisciplinary curriculum.
Faculty of Science and Engineering provides unique learning support
=Don't worry if you didn't choose a subject in high school=
We offer basic subjects such as basic mathematics, basic physics, basic chemistry, and basic biology. You can rest assured that you can learn subjects that you did not choose in high school from the basics.
= TAs will support your studies =
The Faculty of Science and Technology operates a TA (teaching assistant) system in which graduate students from the Graduate School of Engineering support students in practical training and experiments. If you have any problems with your studies, you can consult with a senior student close to you.
Introduction of active, problem-solving learning
We have introduced courses such as project studies (first year) and case studies (third year) that allow students to actively solve problems. Rather than simply attending lectures or experiments, students work in groups on assigned problems and cooperate to find solutions.
Exam preparation for teacher recruitment exams is also available.
The Faculty of Science and Engineering supports those aiming to take the junior high and high school teacher recruitment exam, and offers the following teaching qualifications.
= Department of Information Systems Engineering =
Junior high school class I (mathematics), high school class I (mathematics), high school class I (information)
=Department of Symbiosis Creative Science and Engineering=
Junior high school class I (science), high school class I (science)
Initiatives for global human resource development
= Overseas training hosted by the Faculty of Science and Technology =
During the summer vacation, students will be participating in overseas training at the Surabaya Institute of Technology in Indonesia. They will also be able to acquire practical communication skills, such as participating in discussions on science and technology, which are unique to the Faculty of Science and Technology.
= Overseas technical cooperation EP (Educational Program) =
We are implementing the "International Technical Cooperation EP" to foster internationally minded human resources who can apply basic knowledge of science and engineering and engineering technology to developing and emerging countries.
= Flexible curriculum that allows you to graduate in four years even if you study abroad =
Thanks to the curriculum that allows for flexible subject selection, it is possible to graduate in four years even if you study abroad for one year.
=Courses offered in English=
In addition to regular classes in Japanese, some specialized science and engineering courses are offered in English, allowing students to acquire English skills relevant to science and engineering fields.

You can experience all the learning and research at the Faculty of Science and Engineering in one day!
When I was a student preparing for entrance exams, I was able to ask various questions to teachers and current students at the open campus and hear about university classes, clubs, extracurricular activities, and other aspects of student life at Soka University, which helped me to get a better idea of what student life would be like at Soka University. In addition, the open campus for the Faculty of Science and Technology has a variety of corners, including not only "mock lessons" and "consultation corners," but also an "experiment corner" where you can try out simple experiments, a "PC corner" where you can try out programming, and "lab tours," all of which are very interesting and allow people of all ages to experience the charms of the Faculty of Science and Technology!
You can imagine campus life and career paths!
During the open campus, we hold an "Exciting Experiment Corner" run by students aiming to become science teachers. There, there are many experiments (slime, air bubbles, snow globes, etc.) that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, from small children to high school students and adults. When I participated in the open campus in my junior high and high school days, I went to the Exciting Experiment Corner and did experiments that we don't usually do at school, and realized how fun experiments are. Also, seeing this initiative and the happy smiles of the students who were doing the experiments, I decided to aim to become a science teacher at Soka University. Furthermore, I was very happy to participate in the "Exciting Experiment Corner" as a student and hear comments from small children and junior and senior high school students such as "It was fun!" "I've become more interested in science and I like it!" "I want to do more experiments!" I think this "Exciting Experiment Corner" is a good opportunity to think that making something is fun, and that science and experiments are fun, regardless of whether you like science or not. If you participate in the open campus, please come to the "Exciting Experiment Corner"! We have it!
Senior students and teachers are always happy to give you advice!
At the Faculty of Science and Engineering's open campus, we have events that everyone can enjoy, from students taking entrance exams to children and the elderly. One event that is especially recommended for students taking entrance exams is the "Consultation Corner." You can ask faculty and students about entrance exams, student life, living alone, and dormitory life, so it will be easier to imagine university life. On the day, you can experience being a student at the Faculty of Science and Engineering with a mock class and a lab tour of the Faculty of Science and Engineering facilities, and then be sure to visit the Consultation Corner! We will help you resolve any worries or questions you may have! No matter how trivial your concerns are, we welcome you. We look forward to talking to you!
Please come and visit us before you worry!
I decided which university I wanted to attend after participating in Soka University's open campus. We hold consultation sessions for examinees where we talk to each student one-on-one, and we have an experiment corner and a PC corner where everyone can have fun, so that they can experience a variety of things and enjoy the feeling of being a Soka University student for a day. I also had a lot of anxiety when I was in high school, so I can really understand the feelings of examinees. So, even if you're not thinking about taking the exams right now, I hope you'll come and visit just to take a look around and relieve your anxiety! All the students in the Faculty of Science and Engineering look forward to your visit!
