Journey of Growth at SIPS: Building Bridges Beyond Words

Enn Li, from Malaysia, ventured into the first batch of Soka University's Graduate School of International Peace Studies (SIPS) with a unique background in broadcasting. After two years in the TV advertising industry, Ennli decided to enter SIPS as a means to broaden her horizons and delve into the realms of humanism and international relations. Her acceptance into SIPS marked the beginning of a transformative journey.

During her time at SIPS, she faced certain challenges, primarily related to learning global and international perspectives, especially in the field of international relations. However, she highlights the unwavering support of the faculty and the conducive environment for self-study and discussion among her diverse group of batchmates. Her cohort, originating from different countries, formed a tight-knit community, which was a significant part of her SIPS experience.

One of Enn Li's transformative experiences during her SIPS journey was her participation in the Asia Youth International Model United Nations (AYIMUN) 2018 in Thailand, where she represented Czechia as a delegate. Engaging in discussions about environmental issues with youth from various countries expanded her network and offered valuable insights into global affairs.

Currently, Enn Li serves as the Language Program Manager at the World Language Self-Access Centre of Soka University, where she manages international student staff and student users in language and culture exchange. Her role involves mediating cultural conflicts during language exchanges, striving hard to promote understanding among Japanese and international students.

In her message to current and future SIPS students, Enn Li emphasizes that peacebuilding is needed everywhere so it is crucial to have the open-mindedness in learning. She advises students to explore the creative and practical aspects of the program while considering what they can contribute, be it through conferences, publications, or activities. Ennli's journey through SIPS has been life-changing, and she is committed to fostering global citizenship and contributing to world peace, a journey that continues to be filled with learning and growth.
