Soka University’s Faculty of Business Administration presented in Daigaku no Akutybu Raningu (Active Learning in Universities) written and edited by Kawaijuku

Daigaku no Akutybu Raningu -Donyu kara Karikyuramu Manejimento e (Active Learning in Universities: from Introduction to Curriculum Management, written and edited by Kawaijuku and published by Toshindo) presents the active learning initiative by Soka University’s Faculty of Business Administration. Soka has been working on qualitative improvements in its active learning efforts to support students in their independent learning, and the initiative was selected in 2014 by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) as the Acceleration Program for University Education Rebuilding (AP).

Part one of the book “2015-nendo Daigaku no Akutybu Raningu Chosa Hokoku (The 2015 Survey of Active Learning in Universities)” states that the Faculty of Business Administration “is known as a pioneer of active learning courses and has launched efforts that also cover curriculum management.” Then it presents the University’s actions as examples of “clear educational goals linked to curriculum design;” “curriculum design that revolves around active learning;” “efforts toward assessment and review;” and “an organization and system designed for PDCA, and faculty members working together for cross-course learning.”

Part two “Kawaijuku FD Semina -Daigaku kara no Jirei Hokoku (Kawaijuku FD Seminar: Examples at Universities)” has a section titled “2011-nen-2015-nen Daigaku Akutybu Raningu no Shinka to Atarashii Kadai -Donyu kara Karikyuramu Manejimento e (2011–2015 Advances in Active Learning in Universities and New Challenges: from Introduction to Curriculum Management)” that includes the transcript of the lecture by Professor Miyuki Nakamura at Soka’s Faculty of Business Administration. Part four “2015-nendo Jicchi Chosa ni yoru Daigaku Kobetsu Repoto (The 2015 Field Research Reports on Universities) also gives a detailed account of Soka’s efforts.

Professor Nakamura promotes the active learning initiative by the Faculty of Business Administration. “I am very happy to know that our efforts have been recognized. We will continue to develop initiatives to support our students in their independent learning,” she said.
