Soka University
Curriculum Policy
(For Organizing and
Implementing the Curriculum)

Soka University has set the goal of fostering creative individuals, and in order to ensure students acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes indicated in the above diploma policy, the university systematically organizes the university-wide general educational courses and specialized courses offered by each faculty under the School for Excellence in Educational Development, and it offers education comprised of an appropriate combination of lectures, seminars, and practical training. A course number is assigned to each course offered by Soka University, and this number indicates the sequence and systematic association.

In order for enrolled students to become independent learners, Soka University offers basic and introductory courses for freshman students, such as basic seminars, academic writing techniques, foreign languages, etc. The Freshman Education Promotion Office organizes and coordinates such courses for the entire university, including pre-enrollment education. Also, in order to enable students to proactively study with an eye on their future, Soka University offers career courses with an awareness of the transition from freshman to senior.

Soka University inspects and evaluates the appropriateness of the course numbers and course allocations in the general education courses and specialized courses through a University-wide Self-inspection/Evaluation Committee, as well as via the status of achieving the learning outcomes measured using direct/indirect evaluation methods. By reflecting the inspection/evaluation results into educational improvements for the program and class levels and for a review of the curriculum, the university is working to ensure that internal quality assurance is functioning.
