August 23, 2016 – Faculty of Nursing holds peer meeting

The Faculty of Nursing held a peer meeting on August 23, 2016.

The meeting discussed the required course for first-year students “Health and Daily Life.” The objectives of this course are to introduce students to the relationships between people’s daily lives and health and diseases from different angles, to help students understand efforts toward health promotion and disease prevention, and to ensure that students acquire the skills needed to holistically understand the human body, and to nurse patients from the perspectives of health and daily life.

The meeting made sure that participants understood the significance of practical training, given that on-the-ground nursing is central to understanding what elderly care is about. It also discussed that students should acquire the knowledge and methodologies needed to understand the patients they nurse (i.e. elderly people in the case of this meeting) through the courses Soka offers (including “Health and Daily Lives”), and that they should become aware of the importance of life-long learning while they are committed to the coursework. Then it emphasized that Soka must develop the foundation for students’ life-long learning to continue deepening their understanding of the patients they nurse.
