Soka University Holds Project Adventure and Senior Adviser Training

What is Project Adventure?

Project Adventure (PA) is a hands-on teaching method developed for the use of adventure as a force in school education.

In Japan, PA is used for “classroom team building” in school education, “team building” for businesses and sports, and in many other different areas. In PA activities, participants work in groups to solve various problems so as to develop relationships of trust with the other group members. Then they share what they have learned and realized with their groups, and learn to apply it to different cases.

Senior Adviser Training

We held Senior Adviser (SA) training. SAs act as assistants in PA activities.
SAs were to lecture on what to do in the PA session for participating high school students. The pre-session training was for SAs to acquaint themselves with what the PA activities entailed.
The PA activities are broadly categorized into two types:

■Ice breakers
Ice breaking activities such as “lining up,” “catching up,” “name-tossing,” and “cat’s cradle” aim to help participants relax among people they meet for the first time.

■Problem-solving through “Pipeline” and “All Aboard!”
These activities require participants to exchange opinions and ideas with their group members and work together to solve problems and achieve a goal.
