Pride of Soka Wins a Gold Award at the Marching Band Kanto Competition

On November 10th (Sunday), Soka University’s Marching Band “Pride of Soka” participated in the “Marching Band Category/General Category” of the 54th Marching Band Kanto Competition held in the Saitama Super Arena and won a Gold Award.

In the competition, the top 7 groups that won the preliminaries held in various prefectures in the Kanto Chapter then participated to enter the national competition.

Pride of Soka performed based on the theme of everyone taking one step forward, under the title, “94 STEPS.”
Changes of the heart were expressed through the changes in the musical tone. At first, the storyline is contradicting, by escaping from one’s own weakness, but then, with the support of friends, everyone takes one step forward.
The group leader Ms. Yoshimi Taniuchi (Faculty of Letters, junior) shared: “Through our musical and acting performances, we wanted to create a show where we can express the process of our growth and impart courage to the audience so that they too can take one step forward. Thanks to the support of many people, I am filled with appreciation to be able to participate in the Kanto Competition and receive a Gold Award. Although we did not reach the national competition, I know that this path that we took, with all of us exerting ourselves together in practicing the performances, was not a mistake. Towards the next opportunity, we will together restart our challenge to take one step forward. Thank you very much for all your support.”
