Regarding the cancellation of the 46th Soka University and 34th Soka Women’s College Graduation Ceremony due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and receiving of the diplomas (Updated March 14, 2020)

In consideration of the recent situation of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Japan, from the point of view of stopping the spread of the virus, the government has advised against big gatherings. In line with this, Soka University and Soka Women’s College have made the decision to cancel the 46th Soka University and the 34th Soka Women’s College Graduation Ceremony scheduled to be held on Wednesday, March 18. To avoid big gatherings, the graduates will receive their diplomas from their respective faculty and departments in small groups.

On March 18, 2020, there will be morning and afternoon diploma conferral sessions for the graduates on the basis of the faculty or department. Guardians and guests will not be able to participate in this event. We highly appreciate your understanding. Details on receiving the diplomas will be announced via the student portal site. Also, the “Graduation Party”  will also be canceled.

The university established the “Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Measures Committee” and made the decision to cancel the graduation ceremony to protect the health of our students, their families, the local community, and other members related to Soka University. To hold an event that brings a large number of people from various places together in one location increases the risk of exposure to this disease. We are aware that the students, their families and friends, and many others have been looking forward to celebrating this momentous occasion, and the turn of events deeply saddens us. However, we would appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
