Soka University student's photo selected for the final stage of #TheWorldWeWant photo contest in support of United Nations 75th Anniversary (UN75)

Photo taken by Hikari Otsuka (Faculty of Liberal Arts・3rd year) was selected for the final stage of #TheWorldWeWant photo contest held by Agora, the free-to-use mobile app in support of UN75, the global conversation launched by the United Nations on the occasion of the organization’s 75th anniversary.

To commemorate the United Nations 75th anniversary, 75 photos from #TheWorldWeWant initiative was selected to reach the final stage, which will be revealed on October 14th. These 75 finalist photos will form a visual manifesto of what Humanity wants for the future and will be featured in a series of exhibitions around the world during autumn 2020. Furthermore, out of the 75 photos, one photo will be selected and sent to all world leaders.

This year’s theme is “The World We Want” and around 50,000 photos were sent from around the world to participate. Ms. Otsuka’s photo was not taken for this year’s photo contest but was taken last October with international students during the Soka University Festival, as she contributed to International Café (Ryukitsu).

The message below was submitted with her photo to the photo contest.
“I hope for a world where all people can live safely and happily without any discrimination. By connecting with the heart, I believe that different languages or religions are no obstacles for making strong bond, eternal friendship and world peace.”

After receiving the result Ms. Otsuka said, “I was able to take this photo because Soka University is a place where we can come together with international students from all over the world. I believe that this one photo will be a big step forward for world peace. I will continue to challenge myself to contribute to world peace.”
