Soka University Student in the Graduate School of Science and Engineering Wins the Outstanding Presentation Award (Promotion Category) at the 18th Wood Carbonization Research Society

At the 18th Wood Carbonization Research Society research presentation meeting held online (September 25th, at the Ritsumeikan University), Mr. Esthel Delmore Matheos, a Soka University student of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Environmental Engineering for Symbiosis Major, Master’s Program, won an Outstanding Presentation Award (Promotion Category).

The society promotes research on carbonization of Biomass Resources as well as wooden resources and aims to achieve effective usages of material resources.

Under the title, “Adsorption and Mechanism of Modified Biochars by Phosphoric Acid for Lead and Cadmium,” the presentation was about measuring the maximum absorption volume of lead and cadmium in biochar (carbide) where the absorption ability of heavy metal was improved through the phosphoric acid process, and elucidating the mechanism of that absorption.

Esthel shared, “I am appreciative for such an award and those involved with the association for appraising the result of the experiment I conducted amid the challenging Covid-19 situation this year. I am grateful to Professor Sato, members of the lab, as well as Soka University and the Valladolid University, who gave me the opportunity to obtain a double degree. I also appreciate my parents who always believed in me. I would like to continue to contribute to what I can for the solution of environmental issues.”
