“Important announcement from the University President” Practices to follow during winter break, and about class attendance for January 7 (Thu.) and January 8 (Fri.)

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all students for their continuous efforts to prevent the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).The number of infected people is increasing in Tokyo and nationwide. As we require the maximum attention for this situation, Soka University issued a “The Awareness and Actions of Each Student Leading to the Prevention of Spreading the Novel Coronavirus Disease” announcement on December 9.

Furthermore, on December 11, the government issued a reminder to be cautious of year-end and New Year's gatherings, coming-of-age ceremonies and returning home, as well as a reminder to try to spend the holidays staying at home. On December 20, the National Governor's Committee of Japan issued a statement saying, "Even though this is the season to spend time with family and friends in your hometown, right now is a critical time. Let's work together to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our hometowns (unofficial translation)," and urged people to be cautious when returning home or traveling.

In accordance with the temporary suspension of the government's "Go-To Travel" tourism support program until January 11, 2021 as a measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Soka University would also like you to keep your travel to a minimum until the 11th.
Regarding classes conducted on January 7 (Thu.) and January 8 (Fri), classes (in-person and online) will be held as scheduled. However, those who decide not to travel back to Hachioji until the 11th will be able to take classes online, with exceptions for some in-person classes, such as laboratory and practical subjects. Please be aware that from Tuesday the 12th, students who are taking in-person classes will be required to take the classes on campus as usual.
This will be the first winter vacation in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak. Keeping in mind the tense situation in society, we ask that you refrain from activities that carry a high risk of infection, such as eating with large numbers of people.

As a friendly reminder to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the “Soka University Guidelines for the Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreaks” states "use the COVID-19 contact confirmation application (COCOA)," "enter information into the temperature log system of the University's portal site," "wear a mask," "wash your hands and gargle," and "avoid the 3C’s and take the necessary actions.”
Also, please follow the Government's "Subcommittee on Countermeasures for Infectious Diseases of COVID-19" recommended to the nation “5 situations” that increase the risk of infection."

Preventing the spread of infection depends on the actions of each one of us. In order to protect ourselves, our family, and friends, please try to stay at home during the winter break and take appropriate actions.
