"Food Loss Reduction Vending Machines" installed at Global Square’s Takiyama Terrace

In an effort to reduce food loss, some of the food vending machines installed on Global Square’s Takiyama Terrace are now selling foods (mainly bread) close to their expiration dates at a low price.

Until recently, all unsold foods had been recycled, but as a more environmentally friendly initiative, bread that can still be eaten is being sold at a low price to reduce food waste. Specifically, one of Takiyama Terrace’s two units is designated a Food Loss Reduction area and sells bread at a flat rate of 50 yen.

Food items to be sold are bread products that will expire on the same day and will be collected and replenished when the vending machines located throughout the campus are patrolled. The vending machine is set on a timer so that products cannot be purchased after 23:00 on the same day, so products that have passed the deadline will not be sold. This system allows users to purchase products at a low price and contribute to environmental conservation.

This initiative to promote food loss reduction contributes to SDG 12 "Responsible consumption and production". Please note that products may not be replenished depending on the inventory situation at the patrol time. We appreciate your understanding.
