Presentation by IRISE researcher at the 1st International Symposium on Global Citizenship Education

The 1st International Symposium was held on April 8th (local time) and sponsored by the Soka Institute of Education on Global Citizenship at the University of Guelph-Humber in Canada, a partner university of Soka University.  Ikeda Research Institute for Soka Education's lecturer Stephanie Mitsuko Kukita participated online and gave a presentation during the subcommittee.

Soka University's founder sent a message to the symposium saying, “I believe that the source of hope lies in the challenge of education to protect the dignity of young lives and to unleash unlimited creativity.”

The symposium was held to share the latest research results and practical reports on Soka Education. Under the theme of "Practice of Value Creation Education in the International Environment," researchers and students of Soka Education from Canada, Spain, Kenya, and the Institute of Technology participated online. Also, the newly Appointed Soka University President Masashi Suzuki gave a speech.

Stephanie Mitsuko Kukita, during the subcommittee, gave a research presentation titled "Exploring How Soka University Students Define Global Citizenship", and introduced how individual students define the concept of global citizenship based on a questionnaire conducted at Soka University.
"I felt that many Soka University students showed that it was more important to have a sense of responsibility and empathy for building a peaceful and sustainable world in defining global citizenship than in terms of competition, reflecting the university's 'founding spirit'," she said.
