(Message from the President) Request to Students, Faculty and Staff for the Start of the Fall Semester

As you may already know from the news, the number of new infections of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has remained high nationwide since the start of the seventh wave, and there are concerns that the medical system may be strained.

At the University, more than 100 new infections were reported around the start of summer vacation, and the number of new infections is still rising. There have also been cases of infection spreading at seminars and clubs/circles summer camps, making it even more necessary to take action to avoid the risk of infection.

As for the fall semester, which will begin soon, based on the basic national policy of "continuing school education activities and guaranteeing learning while preventing the spread of infection," we plan to continue the "Level 1" activity restriction policy as in the spring semester and continue to hold face-to-face classes.

However, in light of the above infection situation, I would like to ask students, faculty, and staff to be aware of the following points. Especially in the fall semester, there will be official club matches, various performances, presentations, etc., including the Sodai Festival, and in-person interaction is likely to increase, so we would like to make every effort to prevent infection.
    1. Avoid activities that involve eating and drinking in large groups. During meals please eat silently and wear a mask except when eating.
    2. Avoid high-risk closed spaces, such as karaoke and live music venues.
    3. Clubs and other extracurricular activities shall comply with the guidelines established by each organization.
    4. Avoid high-risk behavior such as staying at a friend's house.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, please check the “Soka University Guidelines for the Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreaks” posted on the university website, and take the following precautionary measures to prevent infection.
    • Continue social distancing
    • Continue wearing a mask, gargling, washing and disinfecting your hands.
    • Measure temperature daily (*must be entered into the “Temperature Record System” on the University Portal Site)
As a university, we recommend getting vaccinated as it is believed to be effective in preventing infection. Students are encouraged to receive vaccinations.
The University will continue to work to prevent the spread of infection and continue to take measures against infectious diseases so that you can live your student life with peace of mind. In order to protect yourself, your family, friends, and other loved ones, please take appropriate measures to prevent the spread of infection.
