Makiguchi Memorial Education Foundation Scholarship Award Ceremony Held

The award ceremony for the Soka University’s 2022 Makiguchi Memorial Education Foundation Scholarship was held Friday, September 30th in Classroom AB103 for undergraduate recipients. Established in 2012 with a grant from the Makiguchi Memorial Education Foundation, this scholarship is a non-repayable scholarship for students who have financial difficulties during their studies.

At the scholarship award ceremony, President Masashi Suzuki gave the opening address, saying, “This scholarship reflects the passion that Tsunesaburo Makiguchi had for human education. I hope this scholarship encourages you in your academic pursuits to meet the expectations of the many people supporting you here at Soka University.”
Chairman of the Makiguchi Memorial Education Foundation Mikiya Takanashi then presented the recipients with the scholarship certificates, saying, “As we head toward the 22nd century, an era of humanitarian-based competition has begun. I believe that each of you here possesses a great mission, one that resonates with the UN’s guiding principle of ‘Leave no one behind' Take care of your health and enjoy a fruitful life here at the university.”

In closing, Soka Board of Trustees Chairman Yasunori Tashiro expressed gratitude to the Makiguchi Memorial Education Foundation by saying, “Tsunesaburo Makiguchi said that the happiness and wellbeing of the child is fundamental to education. The founder once said, ‘Students who study at Soka University possess a creative life that can overcome any hardship, and I want them to demonstrate that ability.’ I hope you will work hard on your studies and lead a meaningful student life.”
