From November 26th to December 6th, 2022, Dr. Jiao Chunmeng and Dr. Cai Ji from Lake Biwa Environmental Research Institute, and Mr. Getachew Bayable Tirneh, who is from Ethiopia and a Ph.D. candidate of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Soka University, visited Ethiopia. They launched a survey on Theme 1 "Building a water hyacinth management model".

　　　They firstly had meetings with the Ethiopian members, such as the project manager Associate Professor Dr. Solomon Addisu Legesse of Bahir Dar University (BDU), Assistant Professor Dr. Mulatie Mekonnen Getahun, and Deputy Director Mr. Zelalem Liyew Kassa of the Lake Tana and Other Water bodies Protection and Development Agency. Dr. Mulatie and Mr. Zelalem were participants in the short-term training in Japan in September 2022.
　　　On November 29th, they held a lecture on how to use observation equipment such as water thermometers and depth gauges on the shore of Lake Tana. The team was divided into 3 groups and conducted a whole-lake survey of Lake Tana on November 30th.

　　　When they paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Bahir Dar on November 28th, the mayor said that this project is very important in Ethiopia. Furthermore, he suggested cultivating amicable relations between lakeside cities in both Ethiopia and Japan aiming for sister cities.
　　　On December 5, Dr. Jiao and Dr. Cai visited the JICA Ethiopia office and reported the suggestion from Mayor Bahir Dar. JICA staff strongly agreed and said they would support it.

　　　In addition to the lake survey, they visited the project laboratory under construction at BDU Faculty of Agriculture and interviewed local fishermen, so the visit was fruitful.
