Soka University Ranks Within 101–200th Place Globally in THE University Impact Rankings 2019

    On April 3 (Wednesday), Times Higher Education (THE), a British magazine specializing in higher education, announced its THE University Impact Rankings 2019, which appraises engagements in the United Nations’ SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). Soka University was ranked within 101–200th place globally (equivalent to 4th place in Japan).

    The ranking appraises the score of a university’s ability to contribute to society. This was the first of its kind, taking place with more than 450 universities from 76 countries around the world (41 universities in Japan).
    In terms of appraisal, 11 items that relate to universities among the 17 goals upheld by the SDGs advocated by the United Nations will be subjects of the survey. “17. Partnerships for the Goals” is a required item. The scores of three items of which a university obtains high appraisals will be added to this, and the ranking is calculated.

    Soka University’s ranking and individual ranking are as follows. The university will continue to engage in educational and research activities so as to realize the global society that the SDGs aims for.
    ■ Overall ranking: 101–200th place
    ■ Individual ranking (Required item 17 + three items with high appraisals)
    - Goal 17 – “Partnerships for the Goals”: 95th place
    - Goal 4 – “Quality Education”: 201–300th place
    - Goal 8 – “Decent Work and Economic Growth”: 101–200th place
    - Goal 16 – “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”: 61st place
