A research book containing a presentation speech by IRISE’s research professor was published

A book on Shigeru Nanbara (1889-1974), former President of the University of Tokyo and one of Japan’s leading political philosophers and educators during and after the war, entitled Reading about Shigeru Nanbara, on state and religion was published. (edited by Shigeru Nanbara Research Group, Yokohama Daikido)

This book includes a presentation speech by IRISE’s vice-director, Mr. Takao Ito, who took part in the panel discussion at the 16th Shigeru Nanbara Symposium (organized by the Shigeru Nanbara Research Group, Gakushikaikan) held on November 2, 2019 to mark the 130th anniversary of the birth of Shigeru Nanbara. Vice-director Mr. Ito discussed the historical background and contemporary significance of “spiritual revolution” and “human revolution” advocated by Nanbara under the title of “Underpinning Democracy – Shigeru Nanbara and the Idea of Spiritual Revolution and Human Revolution”.

On June 19 last year, IRISE invited Dr. Setsu Kato (Professor Emeritus of Seikei University), a leading expert in Nanbara studies, to give a lecture on the 130th anniversary of the birth of Shigeru Nanbara.

The word Human Revolution is the title of the novel written by Mr. Josei Toda and founder Dr. Daisaku Ikeda, and Shigeru Nanbara was also mentioned in the novel The New Human Revolution, Volume 14 written by founder Dr. Daisaku Ikeda.
