The Nomura Seminar of our university's Faculty of Business Administration receives the "Student Encouragement Award" from the Japan Society for Environmental Management! Their sustainable on-campus model tackles the challenge of visualizing CO2 emissions.
On Saturday, May 23rd, the 2026 Spring Research Presentation Conference was held at Musashino University in Koto Ward, Tokyo, and a joint student team of 3rd and 4th year students (at the time of the conference) from Professor Nomura's seminar in the Faculty of Business Administration at our university received the "Student Encouragement Award."
This award was presented to the team that gave a presentation at the Spring 2025 Research Conference of the Japan Society for Environmental Management (a specified non-profit organization) last year.
In the Nomura Seminar, we are developing the "Fukuno Kimochi Project," which aims to solve environmental problems related to clothing, based on three action guidelines: "learning, action, and implementation." This project is based on the activities that received the "2nd Soka University SDGs Good Practice Excellence Award" from our university, and this time we focused on "measuring and visualizing CO2 emissions from apparel products."
The award was given not only for introducing environmentally friendly clothing, but also for implementing a system within the university to measure and visualize environmental impact (CO2 emissions) themselves.
The award-winning student said, "With the advice of experts, we were able to estimate and visualize the amount of CO2 reduction ourselves. We received praise from company representatives and senior students who said, 'We're impressed that you're working on this much while you're still a student,' and we felt a great sense of accomplishment in conducting research and implementation that is ahead of its time. Rather than simply pursuing profit, we learned the importance of humanism by capturing environmental impact as data and involving those around us."
