Soka University Philippines Office

Soka University was selected for the Top Global University Project initiated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2014. As one of its initiatives, the Soka University Overseas Office in the Philippines (University of the East - Soka University International Program Office) was established at the University of the East Caloocan campus on August 14, 2018. The office provides information and advice to students in the Philippines who are considering studying in Japan, while also assisting Soka University students studying in the Philippines. The office also works on various activities such as strengthening cooperation with partnering universities.

Academic Exchanges

Soka University concluded an exchange agreement between the University of the Philippines, Philippines in 1988 and has been developing friendship with 9 universities eversince to develop and promote friendly exchanges in the Philippines. The University has concluded academic exchange agreements with 246 universities in 66 countries and regions (as of June 2023), and in addition to the student exchange study abroad programs, it has been accelerating its student and faculty exchanges as well as research exchanges through programs such as the double degree programs and short-term exchange programs. Approximately 900 Japanese students experience studying abroad each year and approximately 800 international students study at the University.

Q. What are the opening hours for the Philippines Office?
A. Normally, the Soka University Philippines Office is open from Monday to Friday 9am until 5pm for pick-up of brochures or submission of application forms. Face to face consultation is every Thursday. Other days can be arranged upon prior appointment.

Q. In which languages do the office operate in?
A. Filipino and English.
Q. I want to consult about studying at Soka University. Who and how should I contact?
A. Please contact the Philippines Office via email.
Q. Do you provide any support in obtaining visa etc.?
A. If you are accepted to a program, a Certificate of Eligibility will be sent to you from the Soka University International Affairs Office. Please apply for your visa at the Japanese embassy in your country. You will need to apply on your own but we can give advices as support.

Due to COVID-19, there may be some changes in the application processes, so please make sure to check the website of the Japanese embassy of your country and/or contact the Soka University International Affairs Office.
Q. I want to learn more about Soka University. Do you have events such as explanatory meetings or open-house? Also, I have plans to visit Japan and want to visit Soka University. Are campus tours available?
A. There are plans of having an entrance exam orientations in various universities in the Philippines.
     Official announcements will be posted on the Philippines Office NEWS and/or the Soka University website.

     Campus tours are currently not available due to COVID-19.
