Learning Commons "SPACe"
Global Square has a place where you can freely exchange opinions with your peers. This is the Learning Commons "SPACe." By sharing what you have learned with everyone, regardless of whether you are an undergraduate, graduate, international student, or faculty member, each and every learning experience will open the door to new possibilities.

"SPACe" provides 360° support for the learning of Soka University students
SPACe is a place where undergraduate and graduate students, international students, faculty and staff can utilize their own ideas and experiences to support each other's learning. It is also a space that you can use with your friends and use your imagination freely.
When people encounter new information, they are inspired by ideas. They then take those ideas and deepen them through conversations with friends or through books, and then give them a form to share with a variety of people. SPACe not only promotes this "creativity link" activity, but also creates a place and opportunity to make learning more accessible. And by guiding you to active learning, we hope to draw out your potential.
This is the main stage of SPACe. Let's gather everyone together and have fun learning!
This space can be used in a variety of ways, from small group active learning to group discussions and presentations to large audiences. The circular space, reminiscent of a coliseum, is not only a study space but is also welcomed for use for learning-related projects and events. Two walls are equipped with large whiteboards that can also be used for projectors, so please feel free to use it to your heart's content, such as for faculty research talks or original presentation competitions.

Flexible space unique to SPACe that pursues a sense of everyday life
I'm sure all students have their favorite places, such as a living room where they can relax and unwind. At SPACe, we aimed to create a space where students can gather casually, just like their favorite places.
You can work on assignments at the original tables in the Peer Learning Zone or hold group discussions in the booths.
There are a variety of spaces that can be used creatively, giving users the right amount of concentration and a sense of openness.
SPACe opens up a new world of global connectivity
The goal of language learning at Soka University is to "understand the culture of the country and acquire usable language skills." SPACe has set up the WLC Self-Access Center to back up practical learning. In the space related to a wide range of languages including English, many events are held where you can interact with international students. All you have to do next is open the door. A big world is waiting for you.
A support space where you can ask anything to feel safe and secure in your student life
From questions about language learning to everyday problems, worries are inevitable in student life. SPACe has support staff who will work with you to solve such problems. You can ask anything from how to use SPACe to personal consultations, so please feel free to drop by.
A quiet environment improves concentration. Individual areas recommended for self-study
If you want to do some research in preparation for group study, concentrate on preparing materials, or work on a PC, please visit the individual study space. C Zone is the only area in SPACe where conversation is prohibited, as conversation is emphasized. The calm wood-grain furniture is equipped with hand lights and power outlets. There are also window seats with a good view surrounded by greenery, and the quiet environment is sure to help you concentrate even more.

Course consultation at the beginning of the semester

Japanese Writing Center
Japanese Writing Center
The Japanese Writing Center is a facility that helps students write reports.
It is run by faculty members in charge of the "Academic Writing" class and graduate student tutors.
The library is open to not only Japanese people but also undergraduate students whose native language is not Japanese.
Services offered by the Japanese Writing Center include "report tutoring," "report diagnosis," and "study seminars" on reports.
*The Japanese Writing Center only accepts assignments (reports, papers) related to classes. Therefore, we cannot accept applications or essays related to scholarships or study abroad that are not directly related to classes.

Report Tutoring
Report tutoring is a service in which faculty members or graduate student tutors provide individual consultation regarding students' reports.
In report tutoring, the tutor does not tell the writer (student) the answer, but supports them in identifying problems and improving themselves.
At the Japanese Writing Center, we place emphasis on the writing process, so we don't just provide support after the report is completed.
You can ask for advice before you start writing or while you're writing.
You can also use it if you haven't decided on a topic or don't know what kind of materials to look for.

Report Diagnosis
Report Diagnosis is a service that checks the overall structure of the report, the structure of paragraphs, and Japanese expressions, and enters comments (codes) for problems. Please note that it is not a service for editing or proofreading.
*The maximum length of a report diagnosis is approximately 3,000 characters. Please submit your graduation thesis or other reports with many characters in separate installments. When splitting, please use the service by dividing each installment into multiple installments (at convenient round numbers) of approximately 3,000 characters each. Alternatively, you can use the service more effectively by focusing on the part of the whole that you are most unsure about.
*If you are an international student and would like to consult only about checking the Japanese language of a report written in Japanese, please make a reservation at the HELP DESK and ask for advice.
*Diagnosis can take up to one week, so please apply well in advance.
*If the diagnosis did not solve your problem or you are unsure of how to improve it, try Report Tutoring.

SPACe Books/DVDs
SPACe, a learning commons that serves as a place for self-study, collaborative learning, and knowledge creation, has a wide variety of materials available for free viewing within SPACe, including designated books, reference books, language learning materials (readers, language learning books, audiovisual materials, homework, etc.), and the founder's writings corner.
Readers
We have Oxford Readers, Macmillan readers, Penguin readers, and other books for extensive English reading study.
(Lending books are located at the back of the Learning Commons on the 1st floor of the Central Library.)
Language study / Others
For language study, we have books in English, Chinese, Korean, and European languages (German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, etc.).
Other general books are also available.
*Language learning materials are included in the "SPACe General" search.

The library has books selected by faculty members of Faculty of International Liberal Arts.
NHK Language Learning Textbooks
For language study, we have magazines in English, Chinese, Korean, and European languages (German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, etc.).

These are required reading materials designated by faculty members in charge of liberal arts courses for studying classes.
(SPACe has purchased one additional copy of each of the Liberal Arts Faculties' designated books from the Central Library. In addition to the same designated books as SPACe, the Central Library also has designated books that could not be purchased.)
SRA laboratory series
We have the "SRA laboratory" series of educational English learning materials.
Homework
Founder's Collection
This corner allows visitors to learn about the ideas and actions of our founder, and features his books published in foreign languages, including collections of interviews, speeches, and literary works.
We will resume lending stationery and laptops.
*Staff will disinfect the area regularly, but please take precautions against infection such as disinfecting your hands before and after use.

Reservations can be made for groups of three or more. Rental time is limited to three hours per group per day, in 30-minute increments.
Reservations can be made up to two weeks in advance and are given priority.
However, you can use it freely when there is no reservation and it is available.
