Mid-to-Long-Term Plan
Soka University Mid- to Long-Term Plan
This is the medium- to long-term plan of Soka University School Corporation as of April 1, 2021.
Chairperson of the Board of Trustees
Fostering capable individuals
who will shape a new society of peace
I am determined to do my utmost for the development of Soka University, looking toward the 40th -- and beyond that to the 50th -- anniversary of the university's founding. My guiding principle in this is the commitment of "students first," a commitment that has been at the heart of this institution since its inception.
The 21st century dawned with much hope and expectation on the part of the people of the world. However, turmoil and an increasing sense of helplessness have become a pervasive reality in both the educational community and society as a whole. What is most required at this critical juncture in history is the emergence of individuals capable of shaping a new social reality, one based on peace. It is my belief, therefore, that those engaged in higher education, whose responsibility it is to produce people of talent, shoulder a grave responsibility.

Chairperson of the Board of Trustees
Yasunori Tashiro
The unchanging mission of Soka University is to foster and develop individuals capable of creating new values in whichever arena they are engaged; individuals who, irrespective of the age, embody the founding spirit of the university, as laid out by Dr. Daisaku Ikeda, the founder. Dr. Ikeda has remarked that Soka University is now in its second pioneering period, one in which it must open up a "golden age" of value-creating education. In order to help usher in such an age, I am resolved to create, through the united efforts of the faculty, administration and student body, a new history within Soka University.

Greetings from the President
Soka University was founded in 1971 by founder Daisaku Ikeda with the Founding Spirit of "Be the highest seat of learning for humanistic education," "Be the cradle of a new culture," and "To be a fortress that protects peace for mankind." Since then, we have been nurturing "global citizens" who face social issues both at home and abroad head-on and create value with the aim of resolving them.
Since its establishment, the university has promoted the internationalization of its educational programs and academic exchange with overseas universities, and currently has academic exchange agreements with 270 universities in 69 countries and regions around the world (As of the end of March 2025). It is conducting exchange studies and research exchanges, and creating a campus where people with diverse values and backgrounds can learn from each other. Students have also made outstanding achievements such as six students from Law School (including graduates) passing the bar exam last year, bringing the total number of successful candidates since the university's establishment to 454. In addition, the university has achieved outstanding results in a variety of fields, such as winning an off-campus business contest, coming second in the national baseball competition, a gold medal at the World University Championships Cheerleading, and three students passed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs professional employee recruitment exam.
The medium- to long-term plan "Soka University Grand Design 2021-2030" aimed at 2030 has the theme of "A university that fosters 'global citizens' that can create value." In April 2026, we plan to open a Faculty of Economics and Business Administration Department of Business Studies (*) to cultivate the ability to solve social issues. In addition, we are envisioning the establishment of a Faculty of Science and Engineering Department of Green Technology (*) that aims to solve environmental problems through energy-saving and energy-creation technologies, and a Department of Life Science and Technology (*) that creates a well-being society centered on life science. In addition, in order to more clearly convey the educational content and characteristics of the department, we plan to change the name of the Department of Law in the Faculty of Law to the Department of Law and Politics and the Department of Education in the Faculty of Education to Department of Education and Psychology.
Based on the Founding Spirit set forth by our founder, Mr. Ikeda, all faculty and staff are determined to work even harder to help each and every student realize their potential on our diverse campus.
(*) Tentative name and may be subject to change.
