Specialized Field

Japanese Language Education

Research theme

・Japanese language and Japanese language education for foreign workers
・Exploring the possibilities of learner-centered teaching methods (collaborative learning, CLIL)

research content

I am researching the Japanese language of foreign workers, particularly foreign care workers. I am investigating actual care communication, focusing on its iconicity and structure to understand what kind of communication is taking place, and analyzing the correlation between care actions and language activities and the user's motor abilities, cognitive recovery, and communication skills. From this, I aim to clarify the characteristics of good care communication and to draw suggestions for sustainable Japanese language education for care.
Additionally, from the perspective of Japanese language teacher training, we are exploring the possibility of using learner-centered educational methods such as collaborative learning and CLIL to lead to deeper learning for learners.

Research and Education Policy

We will continue to look at Japanese language education for foreign workers and the potential of learner-centered educational methods such as collaborative learning and CLIL. We will also look at Japanese language education for children with foreign connections, which has been rapidly increasing in recent years. We would like to learn and explore these issues together with the students. In the process, we would like the students to acquire the ability to accurately grasp phenomena, analyze and consider them from an objective perspective, and investigate issues. We also want teachers to investigate issues with a sincere eye, on an equal footing with the students.

Main career, work history, and academic background

I was posted to a university in Hanoi, Vietnam for a total of four and a half years (one and a half years as a JICA Japanese Language Education Specialist).

Degrees Obtained

Graduate School of Human Sciences, Tokyo Metropolitan University (currently Tokyo Metropolitan University)
Completed doctoral program, PhD (Japanese Language Education)
