Interview

Please introduce yourself.

After graduating from Faculty of Economics at Soka University, I lived in the United States for 15 years. During my time in the United States, I obtained a master's degree and a doctorate from Yale University and Cornell University, respectively. During my time working at the World Bank and Yale University, I was involved in research, advice, and technical support on environmental issues such as climate change and the impact assessment of development projects in developing and developed countries.

Please tell us about your research.

We use big data and econometric methods to measure the economic impacts of climate change in developing and developed countries.

What kind of contributions to society do you expect as your research progresses?

Understanding the economic impacts and damages of climate change will help formulate optimal adaptation and mitigation policies.

What can you learn in the seminar?

In the seminar, students will learn data analysis and econometric methods, conduct research projects on topics of interest in the fields of environment and development, and present the results of their research both on and off campus. In addition, students are encouraged to undertake internships at international organizations, university research institutes, and companies in Japan and overseas in order to put the knowledge they have gained in the seminar into practice through real-life work experience. The knowledge, skills, and experience gained through the seminar will be useful for students aiming for a variety of careers, such as at international organizations such as the United Nations and the World Bank, at graduate schools in Japan and overseas, and in the private sector.

Please say a few words to all the students.

The stage on which you will all perform is expanding all over the world. Let's hone our skills together to contribute to society in the best environment that is Soka University!
